It's about time, seeing how popular these became.

Controlling jet engines isn't as easy as electric motors is. Even small react pretty slow to power alterations. I might be pessimistic but I think that the flying time before crashing is 10 seconds or so.
A bit more usable concept could use a jet engine to give it high speed but use electric motors to control it.
Here's totally different idea that was tried years ago. Lockheed Martin's Multiple Kill Vehicle (MKV-L) doing some flying test. It was supposed to go orbiting around the earth and destroy hostile satellites (or ballistic missiles). It uses totally different method of control than any drones use but similar system could still work with propellers too. At least it sounds pretty awesome.

Yeah, that will work really well. Engines that take time to spool are perfect for craft that get their stability from near instantaneous changes in thrust

I never said it was a good idea, I just said it was cool. Isn't that what everyone just assumes when they see a kickstarter project?

Picking up the sarcasm: A coworker and I talked about exactly that as soon as I came across this.
See my response to McMike, I don't really think this is a good idea either but it's a cool thing to try. What he really needs is DoD funding since they spend money on anything.

I thought you were mocking the whole idea. While neato, it will never get off the ground.*
What did he not think through? I assumed it was the fact that flight times with this kind of propulsion/airframe were too short to bother with.
*Pun intended.

It's like the whole kickstarter was "I want to build a jet quad, let's get a bunch of rubes to pay for it." Then the "what are we supposed to do with it?" question was more of an afterthought.
As far as it never getting off the ground, I agree. I don't think some independent inventor will get enough resources to make it work the way it is presented.
